Polypropylene – PP
A synthetic resin built up by the polymerization of propylene. One of the important families of polyolefin resins, polypropylene is molded or extruded into many plastic products in which toughness, flexibility, light weight, and heat resistance are required. It is also spun into fibers for employment in industrial and household textiles.
Recycling Code
The most widely utilized general-purpose grade. It contains only propylene monomer in a semi-crystalline solid form. Main applications include packaging, textiles, healthcare, pipes, automotive, and electrical applications.
Benefits
Homopolymers tend to have higher crystallinity levels. Hence they have better short term mechanical properties — stiffness, tensile strength, impact resistance and initial creep resistance.
Applications
Extrusion | Film, fiber(woven),Continuous filament, spun-bond(non-woven), Thermoforming, Rope |
Film | BOPP, Cast film |
Injection Molding | Food containers, toys, consumer goods, industrial parts, medical parts |
Block copolymer polypropylene is a type of polymer that contains a higher ethylene content compound which is a bit soft but has a better impact strength. It has co-monomer units arranged in a regular pattern (or blocks). The regular pattern makes the thermoplastic tougher and less brittle. These polymers are suitable for applications requiring high strength, such as industrial usages.
Benefits
It tends to have better stress crack resistance, impact resistance and lower temperature toughness.
Applications
Compression Folding | Caps & closures |
Extrusion | Sheet & thermoforming , Fiber, adhesive tape |
Film | Blown film & cast films(bags, pouches,food packaging) |
Injection Molding | Battery cases, automotive parts, pallets, luggage, TWIM |
Random copolymer is produced by polymerizing together ethene and propene. It features ethene units, incorporated randomly in the polypropylene chains. These polymers are flexible and optically clear, making them suitable for applications requiring transparency and for products requiring an excellent appearance.
Benefits
The resins provide a broad range of characteristics, and are used in a wide range of applications like high-clarity and high-transparency packaging produced by way of injection molding, blow molding and thermoforming.
Applications
Blow Molding | Cosmetics & high transparent bottles |
Extrusion | Pipe(PP-R ) |
Film | Cast film, BOPP and blown film |
Injection Molding | High clarity food packaging container(TWIM) |
